When the leaves start to change and pumpkin spice hits the menu at your favorite coffee shop, you know what’s coming: spooky season. It’s prime time for trick-or-treating — and just because the candy bowl is a no-fly zone for furry noses doesn’t mean your dog is out of luck when it comes to Halloween treats.

Your dog may love these delicious Halloween dog treats, but it’s important to remember to only give them occasionally as part of a well-balanced diet. Some of these recipes may not be suitable for dogs with nut allergies or other special dietary needs.

Happy Halloween pupcakes

Ingredients:

2 ripe bananas

2 tbsp peanut butter (xylitol-free)80g honey

2 eggs

200g wholewheat flour

1.5 tsp baking powder

60ml olive oil

150ml water

Topping (optional):

50g peanut 

butter70g 

Greek yoghurt (xylitol-free)

Method:

Preheat oven to 180C /160C Fan or gas mark 4

  1. Add all of the cupcake cases onto a cupcake tray or a large baking tray
  2. Using a fork, mash the bananas in a bowl until they are smooth
  3. Add the peanut butter, honey and eggs and mix thoroughly
  4. Add the flour, baking powder, olive oil and water and mix until it forms a batter 
  5. Add the batter to your cupcake cases (spoon in until the cases are nearly full)
  6. Place the cupcake cases back in the cupcake tray/baking tray, and bake for 15-20 minutes, until a knife comes out clean from the centre of one of the cakes
  7. Leave to cool on a wire rack
  8. Make the topping while the pupcakes are cooling by melting the peanut butter in the microwave for 30 seconds, then in a bowl, mix the peanut butter and Greek yoghurt together, until it creates a smooth cream-coloured mixture. 
  9. Top the cakes with the mixture

Halloween Dog Treats | Ghost fancies

Ingredients:

150g rolled oats

150g wholewheat flour

1 egg

1 tbsp coconut oil

100g pumpkin puree

Filling (optional):

50g peanut butter (xylitol-free)

50g Greek yoghurt

Topping (optional):

50g Greek yoghurt

Method:

Preheat oven to 180C /160C Fan or gas mark 4

  1. Add a sheet of greaseproof paper to a large baking tray
  2. Add the oats to a blender and blitz until they resemble flour
  3. Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and mix thoroughly until it forms a dough
  4. Flour a clean surface and roll out the dough until it is one inch thick
  5. Using a pumpkin-shaped biscuit cutter, cut out the biscuits from the dough
  6. Put the biscuits onto the baking tray and bake for 15 minutes
  7. Leave to cool on a wire rack
  8. Melt the peanut butter in the microwave until it is runny
  9. Mix the Greek yoghurt and peanut butter in a bowl and then spoon onto a biscuit and top with a biscuit
  10. Then spread some Greek yoghurt onto the top biscuit and add chia seeds for eyes and a mouth

Halloween Dog Treats | Creepy Crawly Crunchies

Ingredients:

250g wholewheat flour

2 eggs

110g pumpkin puree

2 tbsp peanut butter (xylitol-free)

1 tsp cinnamon

Method:

Preheat oven to 180C /160C Fan or gas mark 4

  1. Add a sheet of greaseproof paper to a large baking tray
  2. Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and mix thoroughly until it forms a dough
  3. Knead the dough using your hands
  4. Flour a clean surface and roll out the dough until it is one inch thick
  5. Cut out your biscuits using a spider-shaped cutter, or a template
  6. Place the biscuits onto the baking tray and bake for 15-20 minutes
  7. Leave to cool down on a wire racktreats on a wooden board, Halloween themed background.

Pumpkin lollies

Ingredients:

100g Greek yoghurt

50g cantaloupe melon

1 tbsp honey

Method:

  1. Remove the skin and seeds of the melon and chop into small chunks
  2. Add all the ingredients to a food processor and blitz until fully combined
  3. Add the mixture to the moulds
  4. Put in the freezer for a minimum of 4 hours, or overnight
  5. Take the treats you want to give to your dog out of the freezer a few minutes before giving them to them. This should help to make sure that they’re not too hard for their teeth.

Beastly bone biscuits

Scary skeletons are one of Halloween’s most recognisable effigies, and bone biscuits – from our charity partner Battersea Dogs and Cats Home – will make the perfect snack for your four-legged friend. Halloween Dog Treats “Dogs love peanut butter, which is high in protein,” Emma explains. “These delicious cookies will keep you full of energy.” This recipe makes a large bowl of cookies. 

Ingredients:

You will need:

300g plain or wholemeal flour

100g oat flakes

2 bananas

2 eggs

1 tablespoon water

250g peanut butter (choose a salty version and make sure it doesn’t contain the sweetener xylitol , as it can be harmful to dogs)

Bone-shaped cookie cutter1.

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C/170 °C fan. Mix the peeled bananas, eggs, water and peanut butter together. If you don’t have a blender, you can mash the bananas with a fork and whisk in the rest of the wet ingredients.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the flour and oats together, then add them to the wet mixture.
  3.  Mix the mixture with a spoon or your hands until a dough forms. 
  4. Sprinkle the work surface with flour and roll the dough into a plate about 1 cm thick. Cut cookies from the dough with a bone-shaped knife.
  5. Place the cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake.
